Cleopatra’s Coins Slot
I suppose this slot game was named Cleopatra’s Coins after the fact that most slot machines used to work on coins. It’s interesting to note however that in my day it would have been impossible to make a slot machine due to the fact we didn’t have any coinage, which was only bought to Egypt in during the Greco-Roman age. We had a society that was completed based on bartering, with the emphasis placed on the exchange of set weights of goods, with a bit of chin stroking bargaining thrown in for good measure, as is the way of people. Metals like gold and silver were sometimes used as an exchange rate system for working out the comparative values of goods, but it was rare for these metals to actually be part of a transaction. I thought I’d give you a little slice of history here, because after all Cleopatra’s Coins is the one machine in our featured slots that really focuses on my story.
I love the opening sequence to Cleopatra’s Coins, which shows the Romans arriving in Ancient Egypt via boat to appear at my court, setting up the characters that are used in the reel game. The game is set in an Egyptian styled backdrop, with small snakes marking out each of the game’s fifteen pay-lines. Moving on to the reel art, you’ll see famous faces from life alongside some stylish hieroglyphs and notable Egyptian symbols. At first I was impressed by the audio on this slot as the background music is quite likeable, even if a little cheesy at first, although the reel noises and win activation sounds are not up to the standards set by the IGT/WagerWorks Cleopatra variants.

Cleopatra’s Coins packs three special symbols. The first is the scarab beetle, which was a symbol of rebirth in my culture and acts as the game’s wild and will also double the value of any combination it helps complete. If you stop in a combination with more than one wild, then the multipliers are added together, giving you a chance to hit some really big prizes. The second two specials are the asp free spin symbol, which is a nasty little reminder of the snake that supposedly killed me and the coin symbol that gives access to the tomb raiding second screen game.
As I mentioned there are two bonus games in Cleopatra’s Coins. You’ve got a free spin game that’s activated by the asp scatter, which gives you a chance to win up to 100 free spins where all the wins are trebled, which seems to be par for the course with Cleopatra slot games. I’m much more excited however by this slot’s other bonus, which is a second screen game, activated by three or more coins scattered in anywhere on the reels. This is our only slot to feature such a game, where you have to explore a tomb in the manner of Howard Carter (the famous Egyptologist who discovered the resting place of King Tutankhamen) smashing open urns to reveal prizes. I think it’s quite funny to note that the only jars that would have been found in tombs would have most likely been used to contain parts of the human body that weren’t embalmed, which wouldn’t make much of a prize for anyone. However, putting historical accuracy aside for a moment, when you look at all the features packed into this slot, giving it a great prize paying potential, I’d say that this is a must try game for any fan of the Cleopatra Slot Machine.

Personally, I believe that there is little technique to the second screen game and it’s best to close your eyes and click on the mouse when you’re picking a pot to smash. It always seems to me to be a complete question of luck as to what you get, so I like to add the extra suspense of not even knowing which pot I’m going to be picking in this game. Maybe I’m just lucky or maybe the gods are smiling on me, because this technique often sees me walking away with the top prizes.
